Course Information

A Cardiac First Responder will complete a PHECC standard of education and training and register as a practitioner. The standard outlines the care and management of major life threatening emergencies including heart attach, cardiac arrest, Stroke, Forgein Body airway obstruction and aspirin administration. Cardiac first responders specialise in AED Defibrillator Training for both adult and children. The Cardiac first responder CFR Phecc Level is aimed at healthcare professionals, community responders, first aiders and practitioners. The course is presented though the Irish heart foundation and PHECC conjoined. The cardiac first responder course is the Irish national Standard in Automated External Defibrillation.

Cardiac First Responder Course content includes:

• Assess an incident / emergency
• Make an emergency call
• Prepares responder  to perform high quality CPR
• Teaches the cardiac first responder  how to use the AED Defibrillator as part of a team and individually
• The course includes adult, child and infant rescue techniques
• Airway management
• Use of barrier devices
• How to help a choking victim
• How to recognise a heart attack
• How to administer Aspirin
• How to recognise a stroke
• Patient report forms

Assessment

Continuous Assessment during the course.
Written exam at the end of the course.

Qualification

Irish Heart Foundation Certification valid for 2 years.
Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council First Responder Certification lasting 2 years.
Each student receives a free pocket face mask and a PHECC Book.
