Heartsaver AED Defibrillator Course

This course is for any candidates who wish to be trained in the use of an AED Defibrillator.

Course Information

This course is a fun and easy way to learn how to use a defibrillator. The Heartsaver AED Defibrillator course is designed to teach the techniques of CPR and choking adult, children and infants and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator to all lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the occupation or workplace. The course is ideal for security personnel, secretary’s, first aiders, lifeguards, swimming coaches, health and fitness staff, corporate and retail employees and other lay responders who might be exposed to, or have access to and AED Defibrillator.

Course content includes:

• Assess an incident / emergency
• Demonstrate how to open an airway and check for breathing
• Demonstrate how to deal with an Unconscious Casualty
• Explain how to recognise a casualty who is not breathing normally
• Demonstrate how to perform CPR on a non breathing casualty
• Explain how the heart & defibrillation works
• Describe how to check and maintain an AED machine
• List the checks to be made before using an AED
• Demonstrate the use of an AED
• Demonstrate the use of an AED with CPR when on own
• Demonstrate the use of an AED with CPR in pairs

Assessment

Continuous Assessment during the course. No written or exam during course.

Qualification

Heartsaver AED Irish Heart Foundation Certification valid for 2 years
